Welcome to the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) The Buzz platform (“The Buzz”). These terms and conditions govern your use of The Buzz, including all its features, tools, and services. By using The Buzz, you agree to these terms and conditions, which form a binding agreement between you and ACN.

ACN is the national voice of the nursing profession and is committed to enhancing health care in Australia through its core business of engaging ACN members in its activities. This engagement helps ACN act as a bridge between the nursing profession, government bodies, nursing and health-related organisations, and other stakeholders. ACN also recognises the importance of members networking with peers who are located in the same region or share similar areas of practice or professional interest.

The Buzz terms and conditions apply to anyone who accesses The Buzz, regardless of where or how it is accessed. The Buzz's administrators and providers reserve the right to change the terms and conditions at any time, with changes posted as a notice in The Buzz. Continued use of The Buzz indicates acceptance of the revised terms and conditions, which users should review regularly.

The Buzz and Discussion Group Purpose

The Buzz aims to facilitate better leadership, engagement, and opportunities for information dissemination. It aims to create a conducive environment for networking and professional development for ACN members, providing opportunities for members to collaborate and inform change and guide the future direction of health and aged care related issues both at a government and local level. The purpose of The Buzz is to engage ACN members in its activities and act as a conduit between the nursing profession, government bodies, nursing and health-related organisations, and other stakeholders.

Rules and Etiquette for using The Buzz and Discussion Group  

To ensure the best experience for all members, we have established guidelines for participation. These guidelines protect ACN and its members, as well as the organisation's reputation. Please note that these guidelines are not intended to limit what members post on The Buzz, but rather to ensure that discussions and shared content are relevant to the group. Nursing staff should also refer to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) guidance on the use of social media, as breaches of relevant NMBA standards may potentially impact their registration.

If you observe someone breaking a rule or behaving questionably, consider reaching out to them on The Buzz or alerting a moderator. Any concerns should be directed to the ACN Engagement & Representation Team at engagement@acn.edu.au or on free call 1800 061 660. 

The Rules

The rules of The Buzz include debating opinions or facts but not challenging or attacking others. Please keep discussions meaningful and professional. Questions, information, and issues outside the community's interests should be discussed using means outside of The Buzz. Do not reveal confidential information or post advertisements or commercial messages on The Buzz. All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal language or materials are strictly prohibited.

  • Users of The Buzz may debate opinions or facts but may not challenge or attack others. This forum is meant to encourage meaningful and professional conversation, not to create conflict.
  • Questions, information, and issues outside the scope of the community’s interests and work should be discussed using means outside of The Buzz.
  • Do not reveal patients’ or co-workers’ names, identities or any other information that may be deemed as confidential.
  • Users are not permitted to disseminate advertisements or commercial messages.
  • All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal language or materials or anything that may be deemed inappropriate at the discretion of ACN are strictly prohibited.
  • Please note carefully all items listed in the disclaimer and in the fine print below, particularly regarding the copyright ownership of information posted.
  • Remember that other participants have the right to reproduce postings to this site unless you specify otherwise.
  • Post your message or documents only to the most appropriate threads avoid duplication and spamming.
  • All messages must add to the body of knowledge. ACN reserves the right to reject any message, content, post or anything that ACN may feel is inappropriate or for any reason.
  • In addition, the posting party grants ACN and users of the Platform the non-exclusive right and license to display, copy, publish, distribute, transmit, print, and use such information or other material.
  • Messages should not be posted if they encourage or facilitate members to arrive at any agreement that either expressly or impliedly leads to price fixing, a boycott of another's business, or other conduct intended to illegally restrict free trade. Messages that encourage or facilitate an agreement about the following subjects are inappropriate: prices, discounts, or terms or conditions of sale; salaries; profits, profit margins, or cost data; market shares, sales territories, or markets; allocation of customers or territories; or selection, rejection, or termination of customers or suppliers.

The Fine Print

The Buzz is a benefit for ACN members, and ACN is not responsible for the opinions and information posted on the site by others. We disclaim all warranties with regard to information posted on this site, whether posted by ACN or any third party. In no event shall ACN be liable for any damages resulting from the use or performance of any information posted on The Buzz.

ACN does not actively monitor the site for inappropriate postings and does not on its own undertake editorial control of postings. However, ACN reserves the right to monitor posted information and remove messages or materials that it believes does not comply with the terms of these guidelines or are not in the best interests of ACN.

ACN reserves the right to terminate access to any user who does not abide by these guidelines.

General Terms and Conditions

  1. Eligibility: The Buzz is intended for use by individuals who are members of ACN. By using The Buzz, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years old, are member of ACN and have the legal capacity to enter into these terms and conditions.
  2. User Conduct: You are solely responsible for your conduct on The Buzz. You agree to use the The Buzz in a manner that is lawful, ethical, and respectful of other users. You agree not to engage in any conduct that is harmful, offensive, or disruptive to The Buzz or to other users.
  3. Content: You are solely responsible for all content that you post on The Buzz. You agree not to post any content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable. You also agree not to post any content that infringes on any intellectual property rights.
  4. Privacy: We are committed to protecting your privacy. Our privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose your personal information. By using The Buzz, you agree to our privacy policy.
  5. Intellectual Property: The Buzz, including all content and materials provided by us, is protected by intellectual property laws. You agree not to reproduce, modify, distribute, or otherwise use any of our intellectual property without our express written consent.
  6. Disclaimer of Warranties: The Buzz is provided on an ‘as is’ and ‘as available’ basis. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the operation or availability of The Buzz, or the accuracy or completeness of any content or materials provided by us.
  7. Limitation of Liability: In no event shall we be liable for any damages, including without limitation, direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with your use of The Buzz.
  8. Indemnification: You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold us harmless from and against any and all claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising out of or in connection with your use of The Buzz.
  9. Termination: We reserve the right to terminate your use of The Buzz at any time, for any reason, without notice.
  10. Modifications to Terms and Conditions: We may modify these terms and conditions at any time, without notice to you. By continuing to use The Buzz, you agree to be bound by the modified terms and conditions.
  11. Governing Law: These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which we are located.
